No Answer, No Problem Posted Monday, March 25, 2002 by webmaster
Sixers managed their first win this season without Iverson as they knock the Knicks 90-82. A.I. says he won't go under the knife. "Hopefully, I'll sit out the last 14 games and be able to play in the playoffs. . .I didn't want to be cut on any more. I got surgery on my elbow, and my elbow, I think, is worse than before. I'm not big on having surgery," Iverson said. Let's hope the Sixers can hold the fort until the playoffs.
Shocker Posted Saturday, March 23, 2002 by webmaster
Sixers' worst fear has come true. Yesterday, in the 1st quarter playing the Celts, A.I. was fouled hard while he went to the hole. A.I. knew instantly he broke the bone - assistant coach at the bench heard a bone snap, and A.I. told Snow "It's broke. It's broke." But, he made 2 free throws and played the entire first half, scoring 22 points, as if nothing happened. LB then sent him to the hospital. X-rays showed a spiral fracture of the second metacarpal bone in his left hand. In laymen's terms, he has a broken non-shooting hand and will miss 4 to 6 weeks, ending the regular season. Miraculously, the rest of the team stepped up and beat the Celts 96-91. Read what LB and Snow said after the game. More: Iverson's broken hand bad news for Sixers Iverson, hurt in win, out 4 to 6 weeks Here's the video clip of how he was fouled and injured. 50k | 300k A.I. talks about his injury.
To Miami and Back Posted Thursday, March 21, 2002 by webmaster
Sixers played the Heat in back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday. The beat the Heat in Miami on Tuesday in an ugly 91-79 win. A.I. started off an ice-cold 1-of-7, but lit up in the 4th as he pumped in 33 points in 47 minutes. Wednesday was different story, as the Heat got their revenge in 82-77 win. A.I. finished with 38 points off 13-of-30, but got no help from the rest of the team. With DC out with his torn knee, the bench needs to step it up if they want win.
Sixers Can't Solve Magic Posted Monday, March 18, 2002 by webmaster
In a close battle, the Magic edged the Sixers 105 to 103. A.I. had 39 points and 10 assists, but missed a game-tying bucket in the final seconds. Magic have won 6 straight over the Sixers. It was a big win to the Magic. Sixers just can't seem to stop T-Mac.
Some newz Posted Saturday, March 16, 2002 by webmaster Will AI play for the U.S. Team in the World Championships in Indianapolis this summer? Allen says no, because of personal issues. Iverson plans to bring the family of Ra (the name tagged on his arm band) Langeford to the Philly area and help care for the children. Langeford, a lifelong friend, was killed in a shooting outside his apartment in Virginia last October. AI is however, a prime candidate for the next Olympic team. Iverson's lawyer accused of witness intimidation. Don't ask, don't tell. Another day. Another injury. AI had sprained his wrist on Wednesday, but is expected (as usual) to play Orlando Sunday. Don't mess with Derrick Coleman. DC has made his name for being the Sixers' enforcer. Iverson said that he is happy with Coleman's new role and credits Coleman for taking less abuse than in seasons past. "You always want to have a guy on your team that's got your back," Iverson said. "Last year, I got beat up a lot more than this year, and I know that's probably because Derrick's on our team. I hit the floor a lot of times last year, guys taking hard fouls. This year, I've had a couple, but it hasn't been that bad."
Streak Ends, Sixers Lose A Close One Posted Thursday, March 14, 2002 by webmaster
The Sixers led by 5 in the 3rd quarter, but lost a close one in the end to the best-record Kings, 92 to 88. Iverson scored 32 off 13 of 31 in the losing effort. "We're a better team than those guys. We had it and gave it away," Iverson said. DC got into some trash talking with C-Webb, where both got technicals. After the game, tried to enter the Kings' locker room twice and had to be restrained. Extra security was stationed around the Kings' bus for fear that Coleman might go after Webber there.
Sixers Storm Back From 20 Down Posted Wednesday, March 13, 2002 by webmaster
Down 20 in the 3rd and with Deke ejected, Sixers believed they would win...and they did. Sixers roared back from a 20-point deficit, to topple the Knicks 104 to 96. "Last year's team would get down 20, 25 points, and we still felt like we could win. That definitely was the case tonight," AI said. He finished with 35 off 12-of-28 with 7 assists. All this without Mutombo, who got ejected in the 3rd. Tonight they'll face Sacramento on TNT.
Sixers Over Hawks Posted Sunday, March 10, 2002 by webmaster
There was no need for AI to drop 40, as the Sixers move 4 games over .500 for the 1st time by beating the Hawks 112, 91. AI scored 28 on 7-of-22 and Speedy added 18. Sixers are seriously eyeing the 1st place in the East. They are now close to 4th place Boston.
Sixers Bury Pacers Posted Saturday, March 9, 2002 by webmaster
You guessed it, AI scored his 4th 40-point game in the last 5 games. He dropped 41 and Snow tied a career-high 25 to bury the Pacers 109 to 100. Some stats: Sixers are 8-1 this season when Iverson scores 40 or more points, Sixers are 12-0 when scoring more than 100 points. Keep this up and they'll be the top dawg come playoff time. Do I see a smile on Larry Brown's face? More on the win.
AI drops 46 on Cavs Posted Thursday, March 7, 2002 by webmaster
AI got his touch back as he scored 46 off 15 of 30 shooting to get job done over the Cavs, 85 to 76. Sixers are 7-1 this season when AI scores 40. The win puts them in 5th place in the East, and they're slowly and steadily climbing up the ladder. Ty Hill still wishes he was with the Sixers.
Hot, Cold Posted Tuesday, March 5, 2002 by webmaster
Ok, here's what went down on the last 2 games. On Sunday, the Sixers killed the Raptors 96-84. AI scored 42 off 16-for-37 and has reached 40 points for the 40th time in his career. The fans booed the Raps, when AI made back-to-back steals from VC in the 4th. Vince is struggling. Seems like the Sixers are going in the right direction. AI wins the POW, again with his back-to-back 40 pointers. Is Allen Iverson really 6 feet tall? A bunch of NBA players said he's shorter. But then again, "It ain't how big you are, it's how big you play."
Sixers lost yesterday to the Celts, 100-94. AI cooled down scoring 28, but missing 22 of 30. He probably wore out his legs after scoring back-to-back 40's. SLAM editor was at the game and describes AI's game.
Here's an interesting article on how AI's aim is off this season.
Sixth Man Posted Saturday, March 2, 2002 by webmaster
AI, the sixth man for the Sixers, scored 43 points in a solid win over the Nets, 110-102. AI was late for the shoot-around and was benced according to team rule. "It's different. I'm not used to it," Iverson said. "You break a rule and you have to pay for it and I accept that. I guess I was fighting for the sixth man award." AI declared a truce with Deke during practice. He also declared that they were the "the best team in the East." They showed that against the Nets, shooting 74.3 percent from the field in the first half. LB was ejected in the 2nd after picking up 2 T's.
