Sixers Sing Blues
Posted Sunday, December 30, 2001 by webmaster
Utah won 11 in a row at home against Philadelphia until the Sixers won last year. How will the Sixers fair this year? It was a crazy night at the Delta Center where 3 players got ejected and 9 technicals were called. But in the end, Sixers lost to the Jazz 89-81 on Saturday night. It was a sour scene in the other locker room, where 76ers coach Larry Brown and star player Allen Iverson sharply criticized game officials for calling nine technical fouls, leading to three ejections. Iverson complained that he "got bumped a lot." "They're professionals, just like we are," Iverson said. "They make mistakes, just like we do. They overreact, just like we do, but that was a lot of overreacting, calling that many technicals." Derrick Coleman got ejected after throwing a punch at Karl Malone.

Rocky Road Trip
Posted Saturday, December 29, 2001 by webmaster
Iverson racked 38 points, shooting 14-for-29 and scoring 14 in the final quarter, but the Sixers fell to the Nuggets 93-90 on Friday night. "I was embarrassed by that one," Iverson said. "They tried to give us the game and we still didn't win. We were terrible out there, simple as that. We couldn't stop anybody on defense and we had no chemistry on offense. I can't even see a game plan that we came in with on the offensive end." Read an interesting article on AI entitled NBA 2001: White, suburban America, meet Allen Iverson

Sixers Beat L.A.
Posted Wednesday, December 26, 2001 by webmaster
After falling to the Lakers a night earlier, the Sixers bounced back with a dominant performance in a 100-86 victory over the Clippers. Although Allen Iverson's shooting touch was off against the Clippers, he still had 23 points and 10 assists and sparkled in the fourth quarter. "It was a very disappointing loss to the Lakers," Iverson said, "Those were the kinds of games we won last year, so we were very attentive tonight. I didn't have a particular plan about passing the ball more; I just wanted to get into the lane and create things. Teams have been zoning me and preventing me from doing that." Iverson finished 9-of-28 from the floor, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter as the 76ers put the Clippers away.

Sixers Lose Finals Rematch
Posted Wednesday, December 26, 2001 by webmaster
In a rematch of June's NBA Finals, the Lakers rallied for an 88-82 victory over the 76ers on Christmas night. They lost a game that should have been coach Larry Brown's 800th victory in the NBA. They lost a game they held in the palms of their hands. "We had this one in the bag," Iverson said. "We gave this one away, we gave them a gift -- a Christmas gift. We just don't finish games out." Iverson did his part with 31 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Sixers' fifth straight loss to the Lakers.

Sixers Defeat Hawks
Posted Friday, December 21, 2001 by webmaster
One day after coach Brown criticized AI's shot selection and expressed displeasure that the star guard didn't practice Thursday because of a sore elbow, the NBA's MVP played just like his coach wants. Iverson scored 12 of his 24 points in the third quarter and had seven assists to lead the Sixers to a 94-83 victory over the Hawks on Friday night. "I was just taking what they were giving me," Iverson said. Iverson, averaging 27 shots per game, took just seven shots and had five of his seven assists in the first half.
"They were triple-teaming him," Brown said. "Any time he got out on the wing, they sent another guy over. He got rid of it quickly. He did a great job."

Iverson's 37 help Sixers douse red-hot Celts
Posted Tuesday, December 18, 2001 by webmaster
Sixers are now climbing back up the ladder as they beat the Celtics 99-83. Iverson, finally showing signs that he has recovered from elbow surgery, was 14-of-24. He's shooting 51.9 percent (54-of-104) in the last four games. "We got a win," Iverson said. "When we lose, it does not feel like the same team as last year because we're used to winning. Tonight, we just played together and we were able to make some good things happen."

Old friend suing over Iverson's 'Answer' nickname
Posted Monday, December 17, 2001 by webmaster
Jamil Blackmon, who claims to be an "old friend" of Iverson, says he came up with the nickname "The Answer" and is now suing Iverson demanding 25 percent of the proceeds from the nickname. Blackmon claimed he nicknamed Iverson in '94 when he was driving him to high school. Blackmon claims he and Iverson struck a verbal agreement saying he would receive 25% of profits connected with the use of "The Answer." What do you think? Defend Allen's Case!

Iverson scores 40 as Sixers end skid
Posted Sunday, December 16, 2001 by webmaster
The Sixers finally snap their 7 game losing streak, overcoming 25 TO's and shaky play in the final moments. Because of a 40-point explosion by Allen Iverson, five missed free throws by the Cavs in the final minute, and a key block by Aaron McKie in the waning moments, Philadelphia held on to beat Cleveland, 94-91."It was a big-time frustrating time for us," Iverson said, referring to the Sixers' longest losing streak since 1997-98, the season Brown arrived. "I haven't lost seven games in a row in years. So it was just important for us to realize that everything could get better. It's not that deep into the season where we feel like we should throw in the towel. After you lose seven games in a row, you just want a 'W'. It really doesn't matter how you get it, whether it's ugly or it looks good." Iverson finished the night shooting 18 for 29 from the field.

Sixers Fall In Eastern Conference Final Repeat
Posted Sunday, December 16, 2001 by webmaster
Sixers losing streak reached seven games last night, as they fell to the Milwaukee Bucks, 96-80. Despite with the top 6 players back, the Sixers could not keep up. "It's frustrating because I haven't lost like this in a long time," he said. "But when you lose seven in a row, obviously it's going to get frustrating because you can't put a finger on what we're doing wrong. It's important for us to try to do better. Keep fighting. Don't get down. Just like you can lose seven in a row, you can win seven in a row."

Sixers Go Down Six
Posted Thursday, December 13, 2001 by webmaster
The Sixers lose their 6th straight, this time to the Hawks, 89-87. In his first game back since the Sixers' loss at Golden State when he sprained his left thumb, Iverson scored a game-high 34 points while shooting 15 for 29 from the field. But Jason Terry upstaged him down the stretch, grabbing crucial steals to set up easy baskets for the Hawks and scoring on a driving layup to give Atlanta its biggest lead of the game, 85-81, with 2 minutes, 57 seconds remaining. Two crucial practice days await the Sixers before the Milwaukee Bucks - no doubt still smarting from that Game 7 loss in last season's Eastern Conference finals - roll into town Friday.

When Will It End?
Posted Sunday, December 9, 2001 by webmaster
That's five straight losses. Iverson, Coleman, McKie and Snow were already out of action at Memphis. The depleted Sixers looked more like a summer-league team. Allen Iverson and Derrick Coleman joined Eric Snow in street clothes on the bench, and Aaron McKie's lower back was aching so much he never emerged from the locker room, and instead got treatment throughout the game. The Sixers lost Claxton (sprained ankle), then lost the game 92-83 to the Memphis Grizzlies. Iverson wore a plastic splint on his left hand, protecting the thumb he sprained Wednesday night at Golden State. Sign of good news though, all of them, including Snow, could return for the game in Atlanta.

Sixers Can't Stay With Spurs
Posted Saturday, December 8, 2001 by webmaster
The only real question last night, aside from how long it would take Allen Iverson to finish a fat bag of sunflower seeds while sitting on the bench, was by how much the 76ers would lose to the San Antonio Spurs. Sixers Plunge to a 4-game losing streak as they lose 86-76 to the Spurs. The Sixers were without Iverson (Sprained Thumb), Derrick Coleman (Ankle).

Sixers ' Slump Continues
Posted Thursday, December 6, 2001 by webmaster
It was a day of bad omen. On the way to the arena two impatient drivers went through a red light, hitting the Sixers' bus on the side and at the back - exactly where Iverson was sitting. Luckily no one was injured, but they arrived 40 minutes late. The Sixers never took control and were plagued with foul trouble. They lose their third consecutive game, this time by 93-87 to the Warriors. Iverson finished 9 of 18 from the field for 23 points, with 7 assists and 5 rebounds, but was injured in the final minutes of the fourth with a sprained thumb and will have X-rays taken today.

Sixers fail to keep up with the Kings
Posted Wednesday, December 5, 2001 by webmaster
Sixers had another disappointing loss today losing 94-84 to the "Webber-less, Christie-less" Sacramento Kings. Iverson scored 24 but shot 9-of-30 and Sixers couldn't keep up with the pace of the Kings. "We started playing their tempo in the game and we lost control of the game," Sixers Mutombo said. Sixers extend their losing streak to 2 games and will play Warriors tomorrow.

Iverson questions efforts of Sixers in defeat
Posted Sunday, December 2, 2001 by webmaster
Allen Iverson said he was "baffled" by the lack of effort from the team, especially in the final minute. The Sixers lost 93-87 to the Memphis Grizzlies today. "Effort is the most important thing," said Iverson, who had 30 points and 10 assists. He pointed out that the Grizzlies got most of the loose balls, "especially in the last minute. I've never seen us not get the loose ball in the last minute. That baffled me." McKie was treated for an abnormal heart rhythm Sunday and will miss at least two games. "We can't take any team lightly, especially shorthanded," Sixers coach Larry Brown said.

Sixers Swats Bulls
Posted Saturday, December 1, 2001 by webmaster
Sixers snapped a two-game losing streak beating the Bulls 93 to 76. Iverson dropped 30 points and 8 assists, but it was Mutombo who stood out with a triple double. He finished with 16 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. "We just played well," Iverson said. "Tonight helped us get back on track."
