Curry sacked as Pistons coach after one year
by Dal on Jun.30, 2009, under Uncategorized
Michael Curry was sacked as Detroit Pistons coach on Tuesday after just one season in charge.
Under Curry the Pistons finished with a regular-season record of 39-43 and advanced to the playoffs where they were swept from the first round in four games by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The results fell far short of the high expectations for a team that had reached the conference finals the previous six years.
D: I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner. Curry completely mis-managed the team and was solely responsible for benching Iverson which indirectly caused Iverson to miss the playoffs. Good riddance to one of the worst coaches in recent memory.

This is the best off season move ,he’s a bum did you think he’d come in here and do a better job than Flip Saunders. If Cavs are smart pick up A.I and guarantee your self a championship. There no reason he should’ve been splitting floor time with Rodney SUCKEY

It’s Joe’s fault that was a terrible trade right from the get go. AI did not fit in at all on that Pistons team. RIP & AI play the same position. Great trade for Denver though. I said it before and I’ll say it again. AI makes a bad team better (76ers) & a good team (Pistons) worse. Basically we will see what happens in the free agency. Realistically there are only 6 contenders for the crown next year. Lakers, Magic, Cavs, Celtics, Nuggets & Spurs. In all likelihood AI will not wind up on any of those teams? If he does he will have to take a big pay cut, fewer minutes, less shots, the whole nine yards. We saw how that worked out in Detroit. He pouted and got booted of the team in a nice way. So bottom line is a dog team, get your minutes, get your points, and go on an early summer vacation or retirement.

Iverson is a great player. The Pistons decline is neither Curry nor Iverson’s fault. Dumars has made serious mistakes but he is such a nice guy and was a selfless great player that he now has a teflon skin.
He passed on Camello Anthony and got Darko instead.
He traded Billups who is fading and can’t make a shot in the playoffs because he is so tired but who nevertheless was a good playmaker with Hamilton. It may be true that Iverson simply cannot play team ball in the context of a disciplined offensive plan. He might have a low I.Q. in such a smart team offense.

curry did a HORRIBLE job of coaching iverson, and the pistons. Iverson hurt or not was the best player on that team by far. instead of starting stuckey it shoulda been A.I., RIP(who i now dislike), Prince, Amir Johnson, and Sheed. stuckey is a younger player who would of accepted his bench role quietly and every1 would of been happy. instead he ruined A.I.’s reputation as a team player and hes going to have a harder time getting signed even tho he dropped 27 ppg in 08′ on denver. iverson is still a star n a top player in the league but Curry messed up his image a a bit. Curry sucks

AI is still a top 30 talent in the NBA. Yes Detroit messed up his image, but even Iverson himself can tell you he didnt play his best ball earlier in the season (he couldve played a little better). Still. Had the cards been played right in which definitely WAS AI’s “down year”, he still wouldve averaged about 24.7 ppg and about 7.3 assists along with 2 steals. (Something like that). I’ve heard that Pat Riley’s contacted him according to ESPN’s ’sources’. I personally hope that’s true. We could use at PG/SG scorer in Miami. Chalmers still needs a few years under his belt to fully maximize his potential. AI would be a great fit for a couple of years.

Curry sucked as a player and even worst as a coach!
Looking forward to see Iverson in a better team!
But the question is where CAN he go?
Alot of people might want to see AI goes to Orlando, LA Lakers, Cleveland, Boston, etc etc. But the ending will be still the same, he’s not gonna get a ring with these teams. An “All-Star” team never win a championship. Think back guys…..the Lakers once got Shaq, Kobe, Malone and Payton. (they lose) Think about the Rockets once got Barley, Olajuwon, Drexler, Horry. (they lose) Bottom line I cant see him with these team. I see he fits good with Chicago Bulls, Philly, or perhaps now a trade with Tmac to the Rockets….but the conditions is Yao has to be healthy, so Yao could support him.

I knew getting rid of flip saunders was a misstake. Iverson would have had a much easier time fitting in with the piston then. Curry messed up Iversons patental alot. I hope he can get on a team that has won a championship in a while. Like the heat.
