Grizzlies owner says ex-Piston Allen Iverson not in plans
by Dal on Jul.28, 2009, under Links
Detroit Free Press: Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley was emphatic over the weekend that a roster move was not made to create more salary-cap space for former Piston Allen Iverson(notes).
‘Iverson wasn’t even part of the conversation,’ Heisley told the Memphis Commercial Appeal after renouncing the rights to power forward Hakim Warrick(notes) ($3 million in savings) late last week. It set off immediate speculation that the Grizzlies were going to renew contact talks with Iverson, whom the Grizzlies flirted with shortly after the free-agency period began July 1. But Heisley quelled that talk.
‘I think we decided we wanted some flexibility,’ Heisley said. ‘But the idea that there is a target is completely false. As for Iverson, I think he’s trying to get with a team like L.A. (Clippers) or Miami or someone like that. Frankly, I’ve tried to tell everybody that I don’t think we’re at the top of Iverson’s list, but no one wants to listen. All it is, we’re basically opening up cap room for us.’”
This is all the better for Allen Iverson – Grizzlies are definitely not a fit for him as the owner is notoriously bad and purely wanted Iverson’s name to sell tickets. Miami and LA Clippers still seem to be the potential teams. However, Miami seem to be focused at signing Odom at the moment which may have deferred away from any Iverson-related deal.
LA Clippers owner wants Allen Iverson
by Dal on Jul.22, 2009, under Links, News
NY Daily News states that Clippers owner Donald Sterling wants Allen Iverson
“It’s out of our control,” complained one Clipper executive this past week. “This is owner-driven.”
Apparently, Sterling has noted that Clippers tickets are moving as slowly as L.A. traffic. He sees Iverson as a box-office draw, even in a bench role following a disastrous season in Detroit that ended with him being sent home for the playoffs.
It seems that the stage is being set for Iverson’s arrival.
“I LOVE AI,” Clipper guard Baron Davis chimed in on his Twitter page. “He is TOP 50 … he would be a great vet for our young guys to learn from.”
What do you think of this potential trade? Does the owner simply want AI just to sell tickets?
Stuckey and Iverson help Pistons Win Sixth Straight
by Dal on Jan.04, 2009, under Links, News, Recap
Stuckey scored 13 of his 38 points in the fourth quarter, and the undermanned Detroit Pistons won their sixth straight game with a 98-92 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday night.
Iverson had 23 points, including a baseline jumper with 15 seconds left that iced the game. He then skipped off the floor holding his hand up to his ear.
“We knew this one was going to be rough, because we were missing three guys that are so important every night,” he said. “I knew last year what Rodney could do, just from the times I saw him. He just needed an opportunity to show everyone.” – Iverson
The Pistons are on a roll even though they are undermanned with Rip, Sheed, and Dice out. Hopefully they will be back soon as they head out on a four-game road trip to the West Coast. Iverson donned the White-and-Blue Colorway of Reebok Answer 12 (see pictures).

Iverson Doesn’t Need to Be A Scorer – Pistons end Magic’s winning streak
by Dal on Dec.30, 2008, under Links, News, Recap
Detroit Pistons showed once again that they can beat the hottest teams in the L by beating the Orlando Magic 88-82.
“I’m not used to seeing myself with 15 points and knowing that I had a good game,” he said. “Before, even if I only had 20 points, I didn’t think I was doing my job.”
Iverson was Detroit’s fourth-leading scorer on a night when no Pistons player reached 20.
“This is a different feeling, but I like it a lot,” he said. “I’ve won four scoring titles and I’ve scored 23,000 points, so I’ve done a lot of big things when it comes to scoring the basketball, but now I’ve got different goals.”
That goal is to win a championship. With this team, he finally has a chance.

Iverson draws praise from Larry Brown
by Dal on Dec.15, 2008, under Links, News
Iverson draws praise from his former hall-of-famer coach, Larry Brown.
“There’s never been anybody like him,” Brown said of Iverson before the Pistons beat his Bobcats, 90-86, Saturday. “Once they (Pistons) figure out how to use him, things will straighten out. They will be a real serious team when (playoff) time comes.”
If there is any coach that knows Iverson, it’s Larry Brown. Recall that magical year when the went all they way to the finals with Allen winning the MVP, and Larry winning the Coach of the year.
The other night (against Indiana) he got 12 assists and took 12 shots. He would’ve been killing me if he only got 12 shots up (with the 76ers).”
Brown laughed, but he was serious about Iverson’s maturity.
“All that kid has ever wanted was to win,” Brown said.
Pistons Hold On To Win, Finally
by Dal on Dec.13, 2008, under Links, Recap
Instead of losing after they led by double digits for the third time in four games, the Pistons rallied to beat Indiana 114-110.
“It was like deja vu all over again,” said Allen Iverson, who finished with 17 points and 12 assists. “We blew the big lead against the Sixers and again against the Wizards, and this could have been the third one tonight, but we buckled down and did what we needed to do to win the game.”
Iverson finished with 17 points and 12 assists.
Dal – finally some signs of life out of the Pistons. Iverson has been made a scapegoat ever since his trade. Now that A.I. has moved to 2-Guard, Rip moving to SF, and Stuck running the point, the Pistons have a quicker line-up. Hopefully, they keep it up.

Iverson comes off bench, helps Pistons beat Bucks
by Dal on Nov.29, 2008, under Links, Recap
One day after a missed practice landed him on the Detroit Pistons’ bench, Allen Iverson spoke loudly with his play Friday night.
Iverson scored 17 points and led Detroit to a 107-97 victory over the slumping Milwaukee Bucks. “With everything going on, I wanted to play well,” Iverson said.
I’m glad Allen admitted his mistake and then made up for it. He led in scoring only playing 27min, 17pts, 7Ast, 5Reb, 3Steals.

Apologetic Iverson returned to practice on Friday.
“First of all, I have no excuses,” Iverson said after Detroit’s shootaround. “It was a personal matter, but I just handled it the wrong way. I didn’t call and let them know what was going on.”

Iverson’s done it again.. He didn’t show up for Pistons workout on Thanksgiving. Coach Michael Curry said Iverson will get fined, will not start the game against the Bucks, and may not even play.
After Detroit traded for the superstar, Iverson insisted he would do whatever Curry wanted him to and even mocked his famous rant about practice.

Detroit loses two straight to Boston and Minnesota: Even with Iverson, Celtics blow away Pistons 98-80. Foye helps Timberwolves rout Pistons in Detroit. Iverson scores only 16, and 9 points in those games. It’s pretty simple: Detroit wins when Iverson is playing at his best.
Rip thinks it just a matter of time.
