Trip down memory lane: Allen Iverson’s 21 points 16 assists in 2001 Playoffs

by Dal on Jul.16, 2010, under News

In a deciding Game 7 against the Toronto Raptors in the 2001 NBA Playoffs, Allen Iverson scored 21 points and career-high 16 assists to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to victory. Iverson had an off-night, mainly due to being double, even triple-teamed, but quickly adjusted by distributing some amazing passes to his teammates.

Heat guard Mario Chalmers just got injured on Monday. Maybe Miami could use a point guard who can drop 16 assists?

Miami Heat Continues to Lure Stars – Is Iverson Next?

by Dal on Jul.14, 2010, under News, Opinion

90043582DD003_HEAT_SIXERS The lure of greatness continues to fill the Miami Heat roster.  The question is if Allen Iverson is next? The Miami Heat have just managed to lure former Cleveland All-Star Zydrunas Ilgauskas to sign for the league minimum-salary. The prospect of playing with former team member Lebron James on star-studded cast was too much to resist.

This author from the Washington Post believes that Allen Iverson could bring fireworks to the line-up:

Suppose Miami signs Allen Iverson? You want some instant offense off the bench, a guy who can give Wade a breather and score 12, 14 points in a flash and be a matchup nightmare? Iverson says he’s ready to come back, that his family is healthy, that he’s refocused on helping a team in whatever way he is asked. The one thing Iverson doesn’t have is a championship ring, and Miami seems like just the place for him.

Allen Iverson Could Complete His Legacy in Miami

by Dal on Jul.12, 2010, under News

83008111MW189_2009_NBA_All_ Did Allen Iverson struck gold last week with Lebron’s Decision?  This DailyPhiladelphian.com author suggests that LeBron James may have cracked the door open for AI to not only play in 2010-11, but cap his career with the ring he covets.

There’s strong indication that Allen Iverson has been in talks to sign with Miami based on the fact that Lebron and A.I. share the same agent, Leon Rose.

The Heat need AI and AI needs the Heat. It’s a marriage made in Leon Rose’s office.

Leon Rose?

See, Leon Rose is the agent for Dictator James; he’s also AI’s agent. In fact, Leon rose to the top of the NBA agent profession based on his recruitment of Iverson from David Falk, the former King of the Agents.

You don’t think Rose wants Iverson back on the court? You don’t think he’s going to talk to James about AI joining the team?

Why else does it make sense for Iverson to join the Heat?  Well, it just makes basketball sense – A.I. is at a stage in his career where he is a distributor

Aside from the agent connection, AI playing in Miami makes basketball sense. If nothing else, Iverson showed that he is willing to pass and doesn’t need to hog the rock during his brief layover in Philly last year. He was clearly a different player from the 2001 Iverson we all fell in love with.

Let’s hope that this opportunity is seized.

Lebron Shocks the World – Will Allen Iverson Join Him?

by Dal on Jul.09, 2010, under News

Server Issues and Server Move

by Dal on Jul.09, 2010, under News

Apologies to all the fans who tried to access this site for the last couple days.  It’s been quite stressful trying to bring the site back up after dealing with Dreamhost, who were providing ever-worsening service over the years.  I’ve been with them since 2004, but the last straw came when one of their staff decided to shutdown my site for something so ridiculous that I had no choice but to walk away from them.  I’ll post more about what happened later.  But the good news is that we’re back on brand new servers and should no longer see any further downtime.  Dreamhost Sucks!

Straight From Allen Iverson – I want to return to the NBA this season

by Dal on Jul.06, 2010, under News

twitter-return-to-nba Allen Iverson has made a spirited declaration from his Twitter account saying that he wants to return to the NBA this season:

Iverson Tweeted: “I want to return to the NBA this season, and help any team that wants me, in any capacity that they feel that I can help. I’m disappointed and I owe my fans more than what they have seen of me the last couple seasons. However, now that my family is healthy and rock solid, I can concentrate fully on doing what I do best! At the camp, I will help teach kids some of what it takes to be successful in life. On and off the basketball court.”

This is a huge relief to all AI fans around the world that have been anxiously waiting for the good news – that one of the greatest players will once gain return to the court this year.  It’s also great to hear that his family is healthy and rock solid – an indication that his daughter has recovered from her mysterious illness last season.

This opens up the trade rumours to a potential team that “wants him in any capacity that he can help”.  As mentioned earlier, Miami Heat could be one of the suitors.  There’s a lot of uncertainty the free agency market at the moment as Lebron, Dywane Wade, Chris Bosh make their moves this off-season, but surely there will be a team out-there that can use this 11-time all-star and future hall-of-famer.

Where do you think AI will land?

Allen Iverson Is Planning A Comeback

by Dal on Jun.19, 2010, under News

364 For Allen Iverson fans, this is the best news to have come out in a while.  Gary Moore, Iverson’s personal manager, said that Iverson is planning a return to the NBA next season (Source: AP)

“Allen is working out and he’s getting himself prepared to make his return,” Moore said by phone Friday. “He absolutely will try and play next year.”

Iverson left the Sixers to deal with an undisclosed illness of his 4-year-old daughter, Messiah.

“With God’s graces, she’s doing very well,” Moore said.

“Allen wants to come and help a team win a championship, which he’s completely capable of doing,” Moore said.

Iverson, who turned 35 on June 7, was a four-time scoring champion and averaged 26.7 points in a 14-year career with the Sixers, Denver, Detroit and Memphis.  It’s still possible for Allen Iverson to win a championship at 35.  Michael Jordan won his 6th title in 1998 at the age of 35.

Response from ESPN’s Documentary on Allen Iverson

by Dal on Apr.15, 2010, under News, Opinion

364-bethel The premiere of the ESPN documentary – “No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson” has received amazing responses all across the country.  It has uncovered a moment in the history of Allen Iverson that only few people know.  It shows that Allen Iverson is much more than a basketball player, he is a key cultural figure in his era.

Here’s some of the response around the news world:

After seeing ESPN documentary, Phoebus coach Daniel recalls that Iverson ‘gives too much’ and ‘could never say no’.  He also says,

“I was close to Chuck (Iverson’s nickname) that year and I never saw him as a person who disliked somebody based on race. I always saw him as somebody who gives too much. He could never say no to people.”

The trial of Allen Iverson a tale of racial divide.

Director Steve James Talks “No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson”:

If I could engineer a response to this movie, it would be basically that you come out the other end asking a lot of questions and debating a lot of questions. It was really important to me in this film–and it’s important to me in all the films I do–that you hear all sides to this situation.

You hear from people in the African-American community who were adamant in their support of Allen, and there were also people in the African-American community who weren’t. I couldn’t get someone to go on-camera and say, “I really wanted Allen to go to prison.” But you certainly hear from people who convey that, and that’s discussed in the film.

Did you watch the premier?  What did you think of ESPN’s documentary on Allen Iverson?

Allen Iverson’s Rank Among the Greatest 76ers of All Time

by Dal on Apr.09, 2010, under News, Opinion

364 Regardless of whether Iverson returns in a Sixers uniform in the future, he still should be ranked highly among the greatest 76ers of all time.  Iverson spent his prime years with the Sixers and ranks #1 in points per game (28.1 ppg), three-point makes and attempts, steals per game (2.3 spg), along with third in total assists, second in total steals, and second in free throw makes and attempts. He led the team to the 2001 Finals, the same year he won league MVP.

Unlike the Celts and Lakers, a lot of the Sixers’ defining players did not spend their entire careers with the organization. Wilt Chamberlain only played three and a half seasons with the team. Moses Malone was there for four years, then came back for a fifth when he was 38 years old. Julius Erving spent the first five years of his career in the ABA with Virginia and New York. Mo Cheeks spent the last four years of his between the Knicks, Spurs, Hawks and Nets. Charles Barkley reached his peak accomplishments (MVP, NBA Finals) after he left Philly.

But nobody besides Allen Iverson gets significantly more love from the Philly faithful.  So where does Iverson rank among the great players mentioned above? Iverson might be the city’s favorite player, but has he had a better career for the Sixers than anyone else? Is he in the top three? Top five?  What are you thoughts?

If Fans get to vote for NBA MVP…

by Dal on Apr.02, 2010, under News

22.jpg If Fans to get a vote for NBA MVP, do you think Allen Iverson would be a candidate for MVP?  The NBA is giving the fans a chance to say who is this year’s MVP.

The league announced Wednesday that fans can make their pick for the league’s Most Valuable Player, with the combined fans’ choice counting for one vote on the official ballot.

Starting Thursday through April 15, fans can go to www.NBA.com/KiaMVPFanVote and rank their top five choices. The other 124 votes will come from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters.

Of course, the NBA is not exactly crazy.  It’s just another marketing gimmick to spread the fanbase across the world.  If you take a closer look at the actual process, it’s just smoke and mirrors.  The player deemed by the fans as the MVP will get ONE overall vote.  The remaining 124 votes will be cast by writers and broadcaster as they have always done.

Interestingly enough, Allen Iverson is still on the ballot the last time I logged in and voted.  What does this mean?  That Allen Iverson could potentially get one overall vote for the NBA MVP, as crazy as that sounds.    Hey, why not?

NBA commissioner David Stern reportedly reached out to Iverson

by Dal on Mar.28, 2010, under News

01.jpg Even the NBA commissioner has expressed concern for Allen Iverson, reaching out to him on Monday to make sure everything was alright. This is according to Iverson’s business manager, Gary Moore. Stern telephoned Moore Monday and asked how Iverson was coping with the myriad problems that have come his way. Moore said the two spoke for about 10 minutes and he assured the commissioner Iverson is doing fine.

“David was genuinely concerned for Allen,” Moore said. “He asked about his daughter and his wife. He said that if Allen needed him he knows how to get him.”

“Allen’s personal life is at the top of his agenda right now and no thoughts about basketball will enter into his mind or thought process until he’s satisfied that his personal life is in order. Basketball’s not high on his list of priorities right now.”

Thompson, Iverson’s coach for two years at Georgetown, spoke with Iverson on March 7, the same day the Inquirer report suggested Thompson reach out to him.
